Caetano de Almeida (Campinas SP 1964, lives and works in São Paulo) recreates patterns and weaves of fabrics in his works through meticulous craftsmanship. With a solid background in painting and engraving in the 1980s, the artist’s work in the 1980s and 1990s drew a direct dialogue with illustrations from books and encyclopedias, as well as from art history. In the early 2000s, Almeida began to recreate fabric patterns collected during travels. His most recent production explores this theme on canvas and paper, creating works with mathematical precision, exploring diverse techniques and materials. Despite the search for exactness, Caetano de Almeida allows the eventual human error to appear in the final result of the work.
