Assíduo desenhista, Marcelo Solá se comunica principalmente através desta linguagem. O artista transmite sua maneira de ver o mundo e a vida cotidiana nas cidades, com constantes destaques para a arquitetura. Explora seus traços em mídias diversas, como a serigrafia, a monotipia e até a instalação. Participou de importantes exposições no Instituto Tomie Ohtake, na Funarte, nos Museus de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro e de São Paulo, no Centro Cultural São Paulo, no Festival de Cultura da Bélgica, na 25ª Bienal de São Paulo e no Drawing Center, (Nova York). Recebeu prêmios como a “Bolsa de Apoio a Pesquisa e Criação Artística”, da Secretaria de Cultura do Estado do Rio de Janeiro e duas vezes o “Prêmio Projéteis de Arte Contemporânea”, da Funarte. Além disso, ainda participou de residências artísticas no Brasil e no exterior, como nos Estados Unidos, Canadá e Holanda.
